participate can simply leave their porch lights off to signal that trick‑or‑treaters should not stop at that home.
“To help keep our community safe, the Edenton Police Department will have officers patrolling throughout the evening with their blue lights on. This increased visibility allows officers to be more vigilant and assist families as needed,” said Edenton Police Chief David LaFon.”We would like to encourage everyone to follow several important safety tips while trick‑or‑treating downtown and in neighborhoods.”
• Wear bright or reflective clothing so children can be easily seen.
• Always look carefully for moving vehicles, especially when crossing streets or walking near parked cars.
• Stick to sidewalks and cross at designated crossings whenever possible.
• Parents and guardians should park and walk with their children, please do not follow kids slowly in a vehicle. These cars create traffic safety issues, reduce visibility for others, and can cause dangerous congestion. Walking together not only keeps everyone safer, but also creates meaningful family memories.
“We look forward to a fun, safe Halloween for everyone in Edenton, and we appreciate the partnership of our merchants, residents, and families in making this event successful”, added the Chief.
