A fun first day...

Bright and early Monday morning, Aug. 24, buses filled with children, some so young you couldn't see their heads through the windows, began arriving promptly at 7:45 a.m. at D.F. Walker Elementary School. The parking lot was filled with parents busily dropping off students, while others walked their children inside for that special first morning of a new school year.

Teachers and staff, stationed at the entrances, enthusiastically greeted and cheered on students as they arrived. Children wearing new backpacks made their way through the halls, many looking eager and excited to be back at school.

Staff, teachers and administrators arrived earlier, making sure everything was ready to welcome their students. The cafeteria team, Patricia Rascoe, Phyllis Ricks and Custodian Leamus Etheridge had breakfast bags prepared for each child, while Principal Angie Walston offered plenty of welcome-back hugs and encouragement as students passed through the cafeteria.

The entire school was buzzing with activity and excitement. D.F. Walker's Hornets mascot and the message "We BELIEVE in YOU" carried the theme throughout the school. The energy was contagious, with plenty of happy faces filling the hallways.

And it wasn't just the children who seemed happy.

A few moms leaving after dropping off their children were also wearing some pretty big smiles, apparently pleased that school was officially back in session. Need I say more?

Congratulations to the teachers, staff and administration at D.F. Walker Elementary School for being so well prepared, welcoming and ready to roll for the school year ahead.

Here's to a great year!
