Golfers familiar with the urge to play all the big ones, know Pinehurst is referred to as ‘The Cradle’.
While links men across the country long for the opportunity to play one of the prestigious Pinehurst courses, - Pinehurst boasts 19 courses total - area golfers now have the chance to tee-up at ‘members only’ Pinehurst No. 2.
This opportunity is virtually impossible - only members and guests of that country club can walk onto that particular course. Well, that has virtually changed. You don’t need to be a member to play Pinehurst, the latest links added to Edenton’s multi course selection at Taylorgolfsim.
The Taylor Theater serves as the Edenton’s Broad St. Pinehurst Clubhouse. Golf shoes are definitely not recommended since you have to go to the second floor of the theater to experience the latest addition to Edenton’s enjoyment portfolio.
The newly renovated space will amaze golfers with actual course like challenges but none of the adverse conditions mother nature often plays as a partner. Plus, you can play at the Taylor after dark. Think of it, after fighting Edenton traffic on your way home from work, stop in for a quick round.
Regardless of the weather, indoor golf simulators make every day a perfect golf day.
The Taylor’s high-tech equipment replicates the game, on an actual course within a controlled environment.
The simulator offers the ability to practice your swing or play full rounds on famous courses. You can also play a round with your friends as though you are actually on a course. Aside from recreation, golfers working on ball control, approach shots and other fine tuning techniques will find the simulator a perfect training tool. It’s a terrific way to introduce youngsters to the game.
Here are some first-time tips on how to use an indoor golf simulator. First off, think just like you would if you were going to play at an outdoor course. Dress comfortably, athletic clothes and running shoes work.
Bring a driver, a hybrid, a 7 iron, wedge and putter. Clubs can also be rented.
The simulator also has a ‘Range’ setting to warm up. Use it.
Take a few minutes to get familiar with the simulator interface and settings. The Taylor staff is on hand to explain the process, the settings and how to use the system. Familiarizing yourself with the technology will help get the most out of the experience.
Currently TaylorGolfSim is open for walk-in bookings and will also give tours between play.
“We want to continue to show off our new simulator space and give people a chance to learn how it works and ask questions. Come on down during theater hours and check it out,” said Theater owner Belinda Respass.
The Taylor is open 10 a.m. -10 p.m. Saturday & Sunday,
Monday - Friday - 6 p.m –10 p.m.
It was almost like a welcome home party for Brandy Goodwin, the new librarian at the Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library. This was Goodwin's first Extravaganza weekend as the Librarian. In previous years, she has worked the event as a visiting librarian from Plymouth Library in Washington County.
“I love creating events and projects for kids”, said Goodwin. “My sweet spot is for toddlers and babies”. Goodwin was at home this weekend, surrounded by children and adults enjoying the weekend long event.
The Library has special year round programs for children such as children story time and crafting activities.
The library is located at 106 West Water Street, Edenton and is open everyday but Sunday.

Larry Mclaughlin, known to many , one weekend a year as Professor Dumbledore, has been in his studio, for the past 18 months- Mclaughlin, not Dumbledore, creating a series of paintings currently hanging in the Chowan Arts Council gallery. When admiring the delightful scenes around town and beyond that Mclaughlin beautifully captures, don't forget to check to see if any tickets are left for the New Orleans Gala on April 5. This is the council's major fundraiser and an enjoyable kick off to the event season.
Last Saturday howling winds stopped many sailors from venturing out of the harbor, but the hefty breeze helped carry the sounds of Paul Kothe and Dwayne Hill across the park to the library. The wind didn't stop the crowd from gathering as you can hear in the background while Kothe & Hill warmed up with 'Return to Pooh Corner'. If you haven't had the opportunity to hear this duo you should really bring a chair and head for the park on Saturdays.
Malcolm and Debbie King are area icons. Here’s why.
Walking down Broad St. on certain Tuesday’s evening’s it’s not uncommon to see a group of men sitting in the front room of Edenton Bay Trading Company. What may seem uncommon to those not used to Edenton’s traditions and stylish eccentricities – it was a men’s bible study group. Trivial as that may seem, the wine store also hosts Trivia nights every Wednesday. Edenton Bay Trading Company, known to many town folk, simply as ‘Malcolm’s’, is the creation of Debbie and Malcolm King and serves the community in number of ways. Edenton Bay’s current 407 South Broad St. location has evolved over time into the area’s premier wine and beer retailer. “Our main purpose in life is beer and wine retail,” said Malcolm. “We are a comfortable place to gather with friends or to meet visitors”.Wine aficionados and craft beer enthusiasts are immediately impressed by the knowledgeable selections. Wines, both international and domestic include varietals from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Hungary. Beer enthusiasts have choices from an impressive domestic offering including North Carolina breweries along with international brewers. Edenton BayTrading sells individual bottles of wine but also has the capabilities to assist with large groups and parties.“We pride ourselves on our stellar collection of fine wine”. Malcolm continues, “From champagnes to a variety of port, sparkling wines and wines made in North Carolina, to selections from around the world. If there is a favorite we don’t yet have, let us know, and we’ll do our best to get it”.“People ask me all the time to do personal events in the store,” Malcolm said. “This coming weekend, there is a wedding in town. At the end of the wedding they will have a small reception here.”EBTC hosts birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, club meetings and has held a number of local weddings. The year-round patio stays cozy in the cooler months with heat lamps and small fire-pits. Inside, large round tables with seating for six is the perfect spot to meet new friends. If cheese is your choice, Edenton Bay Trading Company offers a nice selection of fine cheeses, a line of chocolates and even cigars. Guests are invited to bring lunch or a snack to enjoy with their beverage or bring a book, to enjoy with a glass of wine in a warm spot inside, on the patio or watch passers-by with seating in front of the store. If you have’t had the experience, the holidays are the perfect time to stop in for a glass of wine or a holiday wine gift purchase from their large selection. You may even make a new friend or two.
