Edenton native Stella Brothers’ accomplishments can only be described as stellar. Currently she is a pillar at the Fannie A. Parker Youth Club based in Edenton. Brothers has always been a driving force in the community and has acquired an impressive list of accolades over time.
Brothers has held numerous positions throughout the Edenton community including being named Director of both Edenton’s Housing Authority and the town’s Community Block Grant. Her professional career experience includes working in the school system for a decade, and also with the Chowan County Clerk of Courts office. Recently she retired from the Albemarle Commission’s Northeast Workforce Development Board however her volunteer plate is full and often overflowing.
It’s the youth in the Edenton that pulls at Brothers’ heart strings and where she currently focuses much of her efforts.
Her pride is apparent when she speaks of the youth club.
“The Fannie A. Parker club was started in 1945 under Miss Fannie Parker and her goal was to start a girls club, but as the girls got older, they branched out and became adults. So in 2017, I decided to reestablish the youth club”, said Brothers.
Brothers’ originally began an as all girl organization. Once that was established, boys were invited to join in 2018 and the organization was renamed the Fannie A. Parker Youth Club.
Today, the club instills the importance of community involvement and taking pride in the community.
Brothers’ preaching of giving back while moving ahead is working, as the program has regularly produced students on their way to graduating at UNC Chapel Hill and Elizabeth City State.
“We teach the kids it's not just about them, but it is about everyone. We share how important it is to give back to the community in a positive way,” said Brothers.
Edenton Social Light shines light on people who focus their efforts on making a difference in our community.
