THE WOMAN'S CLUB CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS

One of the busiest woman in Edenton, Carlette Pruden invited me to join her at the Edenton Woman’s Club holiday lunch meeting on Tuesday.  A terrific holiday event.  

The beautiful appetizer and the dessert table was visited by many more than once, since the calorie ban has been lifted by proclamation, somewhere, during the holidays.

I’d planned on staying only an hour to take photos and cover the event. You’ll see from the amount of photos, I stayed longer.   

When I was invited to stay to watch the ‘Holiday Present Swap’ or as some refer to the game as a ‘Secret Santa’ swap, the give, take and steal event of many holiday parties, I had to linger for the action to be unwrapped.  

The gathering was a highlight, so far, of my holiday party circuit. The ladies are a truly enjoyable group  and make a difference in the Edenton/Chown community with their community grant and scholarships for local students.  

The action began with the eagle eye review of the  available gift selections. Club member Bonnie Henn was the first to select a gift of beautiful needlepoint coasters from Williamsburg, Va.An appropriate choice for the DAR President, however, her husband, Jay, would never see those coaster, they were so beautiful they were rapidly chosen by another.

As the event unfolded and the presents appeared from under wraps, the group injected ad lib holiday humor adding to the hilariousness of the afternoon. I didn’t realize it, for me the best was ahead.  

As the game ended three gifts were still in play. Even though a guest, I was encouraged to participate. I selected one of the three gifts and unwrapped a Dr. Teal’s Spa Package of bubble bath and spa soak, however, two gifts still remained.  

Of course, ‘auction them off’ was the agreed upon solution.  

I won the beautiful Winter White Christmas tree platter from Mary Small, who has great taste, I love the platter.  

However, the greatest gift that everyone at the gathering brought home was spending time with the delightful group.
